Accessibility features
Built-in phone settings that make devices easier to use, for example zooming in, reading text aloud, or controlling the phone by voice.
AI assistant
An AI helper built into a phone or app that you can ask questions or give tasks to, such as Siri or Gemini.
AI model
The finished result of training: the part of an AI system that actually produces answers or predictions.
Artificial intelligence (AI)
Computer software that can do tasks that usually need human judgment, like recognizing speech or writing text, by learning patterns from examples.
Bias (in AI)
When an AI gives unfair or one-sided results because of patterns in the examples it learned from.
Chatbot
A computer program you can talk to in everyday language, like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot. You ask a question and it writes back an answer.
Deepfake
A fake photo, video, or voice recording made with AI that's designed to look or sound real.
Generative AI
AI that creates new content, such as text, images, audio or video, based on patterns it learned.

Impersonation scam
A scam where someone pretends to be a person or organization you trust, such as a relative, your bank or a government agency.
Large language model (LLM)
The kind of AI behind chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. It learned patterns from huge amounts of text, so it can write and answer in everyday language.
Machine learning
A way of building AI where the computer learns patterns from lots of examples, instead of following only rules a person wrote.
Neural network
A type of machine learning loosely inspired by how brain cells connect. It's used for things like recognizing voices, faces and handwriting.

The question or instruction you type or say to an AI chatbot.
Speech recognition
Technology that turns spoken words into text or commands.
Study mode
A chatbot setting designed to teach step by step, with hints and questions, instead of just giving answers.
Temporary chat
A chatbot conversation that isn't saved to your chat history. Some apps also promise not to use these chats to train their AI.
Text recognition (OCR)
Technology that picks out the words in a photo or camera view so you can copy, translate or hear them. OCR stands for optical character recognition.
Text-to-speech
Technology that reads written text out loud in a computer voice.
The cloud
Computers in data centers that you use over the internet. Many AI tools run in the cloud rather than on your own device.
Training data
The examples an AI learns from, such as text, photos or voice recordings.
Two-step verification
An extra login check, usually a code sent to your phone, on top of your password. Also called two-factor authentication.
Voice assistant
An assistant you control by speaking, such as Siri or "Hey Google."
Voice cloning
Using AI to copy someone's voice from a recording so it can say things they never said.
